The recent hack on Halliburton, a major provider of oil and gas services, affected the company’s IT infrastructure and day-to-day operations. The attack was carried out by the RansomHub ransomware group.
Due to the extensive disruption caused by the assault, BleepingComputer was informed that clients were unable to create purchase orders or invoices since the necessary systems were unavailable.
In an SEC filing, Halliburton revealed the incident last Friday, claiming that an unauthorized entity had conducted a cyberattack against them on August 21, 2024.
According to Halliburton’s SEC filing, “On August 21, 2024, Halliburton Company (the “Company”) became aware that an unauthorized third party gained access to certain of its systems.”
“When the Company learned of the issue, the Company activated its cybersecurity response plan and launched an investigation internally with the support of external advisors to assess and remediate the unauthorized activity.”
