GitHub is notifying users that unless they activate two-factor authentication (2FA) on their accounts, they may soon experience restricted functionality on the site.
GitHub sent emails to its users on Christmas Eve, notifying them that starting on January 19th, 2024, all users who contribute code on GitHub.com are required to activate Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).
The email, as received by BleepingComputer, states that we have made it mandatory for users who contribute code on GitHub.com to activate two-factor authentication (2FA).
“You are being notified because your account fulfills the specified conditions and will need to register for 2FA before January 19th, 2024 at 00:00 (UTC).”
The identical cautionary message is displayed on the GitHub website upon successfully signing into your account, as depicted below.
