ASUS has released a critical BIOS update addressing the blue screen of death (BSOD) issues that previously prevented certain laptop models from installing Windows 11 24H2. The update specifically targets ASUS X415KA and X515KA laptops that were subject to Microsoft’s compatibility hold since October.
The new BIOS update, version 311, is now available through Windows Update and is classified as a Critical Update (CU). Users must install this update before proceeding with the Windows 11 24H2 upgrade. Microsoft is gradually lifting the safeguard hold as more devices receive the update.
To install the BIOS update, users can navigate to Settings > Windows Update. However, some Windows 11 PCs may still face upgrade restrictions due to remaining compatibility holds, affecting devices with:
– Asphalt 8 (Airborne)
– Dirac audio improvement software
– Integrated cameras
– Safe Exam Browser
– Easy Anti-Cheat applications
Microsoft has also recently resolved other Windows 11 24H2 compatibility issues, including problems with Auto HDR gaming features and Assassin’s Creed-related crashes. These improvements have expanded the number of devices eligible for the latest Windows update.
