Leading automotive parts supplier LKQ Corporation recently disclosed a cybersecurity breach affecting one of its Canadian operations. The incident, which occurred on November 13, temporarily disrupted business activities at the affected unit.
The company, which employs 45,000 people across 25 countries and operates well-known brands including Keystone, Tri Star, and ADL, promptly responded to the unauthorized system access. LKQ immediately implemented security protocols, engaging forensic investigators and initiating containment measures while notifying law enforcement authorities.
According to the SEC Form 8-K filing, while the affected business unit experienced operational disruptions for several weeks, the company successfully contained the threat. LKQ confirmed that no other business units were compromised, and the impacted division has now resumed near-full operational capacity.
The corporation maintains that the incident will not significantly affect its financial performance or operations for the current fiscal year. LKQ plans to seek reimbursement for incident-related expenses through its cyber insurance coverage.
While data theft occurred during the breach, the company is currently analyzing the scope of the compromise and will notify affected parties accordingly. No specific threat actors or ransomware groups have claimed responsibility for the attack.
The affected unit has since restored its operations, with LKQ emphasizing that the incident remained isolated to the single Canadian business division.
