French Military Contractor Atos Battles Space Bears' Ransomware Claims

Atos Denies Security Breach Claims by Space Bears Ransomware Group

French technology giant Atos has firmly rejected allegations of a database compromise made by the Space Bears ransomware group. As a leading European cybersecurity provider with €10 billion in annual revenue and 82,000 employees, Atos plays a crucial role in securing communications for French military and intelligence services.

The controversy began when Space Bears claimed on December 28th that they had breached Atos’ network and threatened to publish stolen data on their dark web platform. However, Atos’ investigation revealed “no evidence of any compromise or ransomware affecting any Atos/Eviden systems in any country.”

The company clarified that while data mentioning Atos was found on breached external third-party infrastructure, no Atos-managed systems were compromised. They emphasized that no source code was accessed, and no proprietary data was exposed.

Space Bears, which emerged in April 2024, has targeted 45 organizations globally across various sectors, including healthcare, technology, and aerospace, using double extortion tactics to force ransom payments.

Atos maintains a robust security infrastructure with 6,500 specialized experts and 17 next-generation security operations centers providing round-the-clock protection. The company, which recently received a €500 million offer from the French State for its Advanced Computing unit, serves over 1,200 clients across 70 countries.
