Business services giant Conduent has acknowledged that a recent system outage was the result of a cyber security incident. The company, which serves half of Fortune 100 companies and over 600 government agencies, experienced service disruptions affecting multiple U.S. state operations last week.
The incident impacted critical services across several organizations, including the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families and Oklahoma Human Services, causing disruptions in electronic transfer payments and EBT card services. Conduent, which employs over 31,000 people and supports approximately 100 million U.S. residents through various government health programs, initially described the event as a “service interruption” before confirming its security nature.
While systems have been restored and the incident has been contained, Conduent has not disclosed specific details about the attack’s scope, potential data theft, or ransom demands. The company has yet to issue a public statement or file an SEC 8-K report regarding the breach.
This isn’t Conduent’s first cybersecurity challenge; in 2020, the company experienced a Maze ransomware attack that disrupted its European operations. The recent incident highlights ongoing cybersecurity concerns in the business services sector, particularly for organizations handling sensitive government and corporate data.
