Meta’s flagship platforms experienced a significant worldwide outage on Wednesday, affecting Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and WhatsApp users globally. The disruption began around 12:40 PM ET, preventing users from accessing services through both websites and mobile applications.
Users attempting to access Facebook encountered error messages stating, “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.” While Meta’s business platform status page showed no major disruptions, the company acknowledged the technical issues through their X (formerly Twitter) account.
Service restoration began gradually around 1:20 PM ET, though many users continued to experience access problems. Meta issued an apology for the inconvenience and assured users they were working to normalize operations quickly.
This incident follows previous significant outages, including a March event where users were logged out of Facebook and Instagram with incorrect password errors, and a 2021 worldwide DNS outage.
By 7:21 PM ET, Meta announced the situation was nearly resolved, with systems operating at 99% capacity. The company confirmed they were conducting final checks to ensure complete service restoration.
The outage affected millions of users worldwide, highlighting the global dependence on Meta’s social media and communication platforms.
