Ransomware Attack Strikes $600M Indian Tech Giant Tata Technologies, Operations Remain Stable

Tata Technologies Hit by Ransomware Attack, Services Temporarily Suspended

Tata Technologies Ltd., a prominent Indian multinational tech firm and Tata Motors subsidiary, recently experienced a ransomware attack affecting its network infrastructure. The company, which specializes in automotive design, aerospace engineering, and R&D services, promptly notified India’s national stock exchange about the incident.

The attack led to the temporary suspension of some IT services, though these have since been restored. Notably, client delivery services remained operational throughout the incident, ensuring minimal disruption to customer operations. The company, which generates annual revenue of $600 million and employs over 11,000 people across 18 global locations, is currently conducting a detailed investigation with cybersecurity experts.

While the identity of the attackers remains unknown, with no major ransomware groups claiming responsibility, the incident raises concerns about potential data theft – a common occurrence in ransomware attacks. This is particularly significant given the company’s role in developing critical technology and handling state projects.

This incident follows a previous attack on Tata Power in October 2022 by the Hive ransomware group, which resulted in the leak of sensitive data including engineering schematics, financial records, and client information. Tata Technologies continues to monitor the situation and has promised to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
