Google is expanding its Text Fragment functionality to include PDF documents within Chrome’s PDF reader. This enhancement aims to streamline the sharing of specific content from lengthy PDF files.
The Text Fragment feature, already successful in webpage sharing, allows users to create links directing recipients to precise text selections with automatic highlighting. Through a simple “Copy link to highlight” function, users can generate shareable links pointing to exact PDF sections.
This development was discovered through a Chromium code commit, as reported by Leo on X (formerly Twitter). While currently in testing phase, the feature promises to significantly improve document collaboration and reference sharing.
Alongside this PDF enhancement, Google Chrome is implementing several other upgrades:
– AI-powered tab grouping optimization
– Enhanced scam detection capabilities
– Gemini Live integration
– Improved security features including cookie encryption protection
– AI-based website trustworthiness verification
The release timeline for the PDF Text Fragment feature in Chrome’s stable version remains unannounced as development continues.
