Global Cybercrime Takedown: Interpol-Led Operation Seizes $439 Million and Dismantles International Criminal Networks

# Global Cybercrime Crackdown: Interpol Operation Seizes $439 Million in Five-Month Campaign

International law enforcement agencies have struck a major blow against cybercriminals, seizing over $439 million in cash and cryptocurrency during a coordinated five-month operation targeting financial crimes worldwide.

## Operation HAECHI VI: A Global Response

The operation, codenamed HAECHI VI, ran from April to August 2025 and involved authorities from 40 countries across five continents. Led by Interpol, this massive coordinated effort targeted various cyber-enabled financial crimes that affected thousands of victims globally.

## Crimes Targeted and Results

The operation focused on multiple criminal activities including:
– Voice phishing and investment fraud
– E-commerce fraud and online sextortion
– Business email compromise schemes
– Romance scams
– Money laundering linked to illegal online gambling

**Key achievements include:**
– Seizure of 400 cryptocurrency wallets
– Blocking of over 68,000 bank accounts
– Arrest of 45 suspects in Portugal for illegally accessing social security accounts
– Recovery of $6.6 million transferred by a Japanese corporation to accounts controlled by a transnational crime group

## Building on Previous Success

This operation continues Interpol’s successful HAECHI series:
– **HAECHI V (2024):** Seized $400 million and arrested over 5,500 suspects
– **HAECHI IV (2023):** Arrested more than 3,500 suspects and seized $300 million

## The Importance of International Cooperation

“As one of INTERPOL’s flagship financial crime operations, HAECHI is a prime example of how global cooperation can protect communities and safeguard financial systems,” said Theos Badege, head of INTERPOL’s Financial Crime and Anti-Corruption Centre.

The operation demonstrates the critical need for international collaboration in combating increasingly sophisticated cybercriminal networks that operate across borders and exploit digital financial systems.

## Ongoing Fight Against Cybercrime

Beyond HAECHI VI, Interpol has coordinated several other major operations this year, including disrupting global malware operations, targeting child exploitation networks, and dismantling cross-border cybercriminal organizations.

These coordinated efforts highlight law enforcement’s evolving approach to tackling cybercrime through international partnerships and shared intelligence, proving that global cooperation remains the most effective weapon against transnational cyber threats.
