Law enforcement agencies from six countries successfully shut down Archetyp Market, one of the darknet’s most prominent drug marketplaces that operated for nearly five years since May 2020.

The marketplace facilitated massive illegal drug trade through:

– More than 17,000 drug listings
– 612,000 registered users
– €250 million ($289 million) in total transactions using Monero cryptocurrency
Archetyp Market served as a hub for dangerous substances including cocaine, amphetamines, heroin, cannabis, MDMA, and synthetic opioids like fentanyl.
## Operation Deep Sentinel
The coordinated takedown, codenamed “Operation Deep Sentinel,” was led by German police with support from Europol and Eurojust. The multi-national effort involved approximately 300 officers conducting simultaneous raids across Germany, Netherlands, Romania, Spain, and Sweden between June 11-13.

– **Primary target**: 30-year-old German national suspected of being the marketplace administrator, arrested in Barcelona, Spain
– **Additional arrests**: One moderator and six top vendors apprehended in Germany and Sweden
– **Evidence seized**: 47 smartphones, 45 computers, narcotics, and assets worth €7.8 million
Dutch investigators dismantled the marketplace’s technical infrastructure, effectively ending its operations.
## Broader Impact on Cybercrime
“With this takedown, law enforcement has taken out one of the dark web’s longest-running drug markets, cutting off a major supply line for some of the world’s most dangerous substances,” stated Jean-Philippe Lecouffe, Europol’s Deputy Executive Director of Operations.
This operation follows May’s “Operation RapTor,” which resulted in 270 arrests across ten countries and seizures of over 2 tonnes of drugs, €184 million in cash and cryptocurrency, and 180+ firearms. Investigators leveraged intelligence from previous darknet market takedowns, including Nemesis, Bohemia, Tor2Door, and Kingdom Market.
The successful dismantling of Archetyp Market represents a significant victory in the ongoing battle against darknet drug trafficking and demonstrates the effectiveness of international cybercrime cooperation.
