Microsoft has partially removed a compatibility hold on the Windows 24H2 update that previously affected several Ubisoft games. The restriction was initially implemented following widespread reports of crashes, freezes, and audio issues in games like Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
The gaming community had reported these problems across various platforms, including Reddit, Microsoft Answers forums, and the Windows Insider Feedback Hub. Issues ranged from immediate crashes upon launch to mid-game freezes and black screens while loading saved games.
Following Ubisoft’s release of temporary hotfixes, Microsoft lifted the upgrade blocks (IDs 54318776 and 54580160) for Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. While these fixes address the major crashes, some performance issues may persist. Users experiencing difficulties exiting affected games are advised to use Task Manager as a temporary solution.
Microsoft recommends:
– Waiting up to 48 hours after applying fixes for the update to appear in Windows Update
– Avoiding manual upgrades through Windows 11 Installation Assistant or Media Creation Tool
– Restarting devices to potentially speed up the update process
Additionally, Microsoft has implemented new safeguard holds for the Windows 11 24H2 update on systems with:
– Outdated Google Workspace Sync installations
– Incompatible Intel Smart Sound Technology audio drivers
– USB scanners supporting the eSCL protocol
These measures aim to prevent potential system issues until permanent solutions are developed.
