A significant outage affecting DrayTek routers began Saturday night, causing widespread connectivity issues for customers of multiple Internet Service Providers (ISPs) globally. Users reported routers entering boot loops and intermittently losing connectivity across various DrayTek models.
## Impact and Response
Several ISPs, including Gamma, Zen Internet, ICUK, and A&A in the United Kingdom, as well as providers in Australia and other regions, have confirmed the issue. The problems have been attributed to either attacks targeting vulnerabilities or problematic software updates from DrayTek.
ISPs have advised customers to:
– Upgrade to the latest firmware
– Disable SSL VPN and remote access features
– Consider switching to alternative router brands if issues persist
“The cause has been narrowed down to vulnerable firmware versions on Draytek routers,” ICUK stated, while Zen Internet confirmed that “the latest firmware from DrayTek resolves the fault.”
## DrayTek’s Official Guidance
DrayTek has published a support document outlining steps to address the router reboot issues:
1. Disconnect the WAN cable
2. Upgrade to the latest firmware (using TFTP if web interface fails)
3. Disable remote access unless absolutely necessary
4. Implement access control lists and enable two-factor authentication where possible
5. Temporarily disable SSL VPN until upgrades are complete
For affected users, DrayTek recommends checking system uptime to confirm recent reboots and disabling both Remote Management and SSL VPN Service through the router’s web interface.
This incident follows DrayTek’s October security update that addressed critical flaws affecting 24 router models and over 700,000 internet-exposed devices.
The company has not yet clarified whether the current issues stem from vulnerability exploitation or firmware bugs.
