Microsoft has implemented a compatibility hold on the Windows 11 24H2 update for systems running outdated versions of Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook (GWSMO). This decision comes after users reported significant Outlook launch failures, displaying errors related to MAPI and folder access.
The issue affects users attempting to manage their Google Workspace data through Outlook, with the error preventing access to emails, calendars, contacts, and other features. While updating to GWSMO version 4.3.68.0 (released November 22) resolves these problems, users who upgrade to Windows 11 24H2 first will face complications with uninstalling or reinstalling the tool.
Microsoft has assigned safeguard ID 54318776 to this issue and advises users to:
– Install the latest GWSMO version before updating to Windows 11 24H2
– Contact Google Workspace Support if issues persist 48 hours after updating
– Avoid manual updates using Windows 11 Installation Assistant or Media Creation Tool
This is one of several compatibility holds currently in place for Windows 11 24H2, including blocks for:
– Specific Ubisoft games
– USB scanners with eSCL protocol
– Intel Smart Sound Technology audio drivers
– Various gaming and security applications
Users must wait for these compatibility issues to be resolved before proceeding with the Windows 11 24H2 update to ensure system stability and functionality.
