Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 11 24H2 feature updates through Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) are being blocked following the installation of April 2025 security updates.

Enterprise users attempting to update systems running Windows 11 23H2 or 22H2 are encountering Windows Update Service (wuauserv) errors with code 0x80240069. According to Microsoft’s release health update, “Devices which have installed the April Windows monthly security update (starting with KB5055528) might be unable to update to Windows 11 24H2 via WSUS.”

The issue manifests as Windows 11 24H2 downloads failing to initiate or complete. Error logs may show “Service wuauserv has unexpectedly stopped” messages alongside the error code.

Microsoft noted that home users are unlikely to experience these problems since WSUS is primarily used in business environments. This comes after Microsoft announced WSUS deprecation in September 2024, though the company committed to maintaining existing capabilities and continuing to publish updates through this channel.

The WSUS issue follows other recent Windows update challenges. Microsoft is addressing a “latent code issue” causing some devices to upgrade to Windows 11 despite Intune policies designed to block such upgrades. Similarly, in November 2024, some Windows Server 2019 and 2022 systems were unexpectedly upgraded to Windows Server 2025 without user consent.

Microsoft has also indefinitely delayed the removal of WSUS driver synchronization based on customer feedback, despite previous announcements that the feature would be removed on April 18, 2025.
