Anthropic has launched a new premium tier called “Claude Max” priced at $200 per month, offering 20 times more usage than the standard Pro plan. However, the subscription’s strict session limits have triggered significant user dissatisfaction.

## Controversial Session Limits

The Max subscription restricts users to just 50 sessions monthly. A session is defined as a 5-hour period that begins with your first message to Claude. Multiple interactions within this timeframe count as a single session, but starting a new conversation after 5 hours consumes another session.

Users have voiced strong criticism on Reddit about these limitations. One frustrated subscriber noted, “If you send one message in the morning, one in the midday, one in the evening, that is three sessions and doing that for 16 days will see you limited. Calling this shit-tier would be a compliment.”

## Impact on Existing Subscribers

Further complaints suggest that even the $20 Claude Pro subscription is now experiencing faster rate limiting than before, coinciding with the Max tier’s introduction. When users hit these limits, they’re prevented from interacting with Claude until a specified time elapses, with Anthropic reportedly encouraging upgrades to the Max tier.

The situation has already prompted some users to cancel their subscriptions, while others with annual plans are uncertain about their next steps. Anthropic has not yet addressed these concerns publicly.
