Microsoft Edge Unveils Revolutionary Copilot Mode That Transforms Your Entire Browsing Experience

# Microsoft Introduces AI-Powered Copilot Mode for Edge Browser

Microsoft has unveiled Copilot Mode, an experimental feature that transforms Microsoft Edge into an AI-powered web browser. This innovative mode redesigns Edge’s interface by replacing traditional new tabs with a single input box that combines chat, search, and web navigation capabilities.

## How Copilot Mode Works

When activated, the AI assistant can analyze all open browser tabs with user permission, comparing information across pages and helping with tasks like researching vacation rentals or product comparisons. The feature goes beyond passive assistance by anticipating user needs and actively collaborating to organize browsing activities.

“It doesn’t just wait idly for you to click but anticipates what you might want to do next,” explained Sean Lyndersay, Microsoft Edge VP of Product. “It works with you as a collaborator that makes sense of it all.”

## Key Features

**Voice Navigation**: Users can speak commands directly to Copilot for tasks such as opening product comparison tabs or finding specific webpage information.

**Advanced Capabilities**: Microsoft plans to expand the feature to include booking reservations and managing tasks on behalf of users.

**Smart Organization**: The AI cuts through browser clutter and removes friction to maintain user workflow.

## Privacy and Control

Microsoft emphasizes user control and privacy protection. The data collection policy follows Microsoft’s privacy standards, allowing users to manage information sharing through Personalization settings. Visual indicators show when Copilot is active, and users can disable the feature entirely through browser settings.

“Your browser data will be handled and protected in accordance with the Microsoft Privacy Statement,” Lyndersay assured users. “There will always be clear, visual cues on your browser when Copilot is viewing or listening.”

## Availability

Copilot Mode is currently available as a free, opt-in feature for a limited time in all Copilot markets, exclusively on Microsoft Edge for Windows and Mac systems. Users who choose not to enable the feature can continue browsing Edge normally.
