Windows 11 Gaming Fix: Microsoft Removes Update Block After Solving HDR Display Issues

Microsoft Lifts Auto HDR Restriction for Windows 11 2024 Update

Microsoft has resolved the compatibility issues that prevented devices with Auto HDR from installing the Windows 11 2024 Update. The restriction, implemented after users reported gaming problems in December, has now been removed.

The initial problems included oversaturated graphics, game freezes, and incorrect color display on HDR-capable systems. Microsoft had implemented safeguard ID 55382406 to protect users from these issues.

The fix arrived with the KB5050094 January 2025 non-security preview update, which also addressed USB audio device driver problems. Users who prefer not to install preview updates can manually disable Auto HDR through Settings > System > Display > Graphics.

Windows 11 24H2 Deployment Status
– Entered broad deployment on January 22
– Automatic rollout to eligible Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2
– Previously resolved Assassin’s Creed compatibility issues

Remaining Upgrade Restrictions
Some devices still cannot upgrade due to ongoing compatibility holds, including:
– ASUS devices
– PCs running Asphalt 8
– Systems with Dirac audio software
– Devices with integrated cameras
– Computers using Safe Exam Browser or Easy Anti-Cheat
