Microsoft is testing new OS-level integration for Copilot on Windows 11 that enables users to share their screen with the AI assistant. Currently rolling out to Windows Insiders in the United States, this feature allows Copilot to view what’s happening on your screen—with your permission.

## Copilot Vision: Real-Time Screen Assistance

The new screen sharing capability, called Copilot Vision, offers practical applications for users struggling with navigation. When you share your screen, Copilot can analyze content, provide insights, and answer questions in real time. For example, if you’re having trouble locating a specific setting, Copilot can guide you directly to the right toggle.

To use this feature, Windows Insiders can click the glasses icon in the Copilot app, select which app to share, and ask for assistance. Screen sharing can be stopped at any time by clicking the Stop button or ‘X’ in the Copilot interface.

## File Search: Finding Documents Using Natural Language

The second new feature, File Search, allows users to locate files on their device and inquire about their contents using everyday language. Users can ask questions like “Can you find my resume?” and Copilot will scan the PC’s storage to find relevant documents.

Currently, Copilot can read several file formats including .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, .txt, .pdf, and .json files.

Both features are gradually rolling out in the Windows Insider Program. Microsoft has not yet provided detailed information about how data is processed or encrypted during these interactions, though more privacy details are expected when the features exit testing.
